About Jon

Jon Harvey is a comedy writer, performer and producer. His credits include some of the biggest satirical TV shows of the last thirty years, including The Thick Of It, Have I Got News For You, Time Trumpet with Armando Iannucci, Yes Minister and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver. His Radio 4 shows with Rob Newman have won two BBC Audio Drama Awards, and his online comedy videos have amassed over 70 million hits. In 2019 the New Yorker garlanded him for creating one of the 'Jokes of the Year' with his Succession parody starring Boris Johnson. He is also the human alter-ego of Count Binface, Earth's favourite intergalactic politician, who in 2021 became officially voters' ninth choice to be Mayor of London.


Jon's first solo comedy special Sudden Death aired on BBC Radio 4 in July 2022. It’s a spin-off of his debut memoir A Fan For All Seasons which will be published by Penguin Random House in August 2023. Jon’s acclaimed debut Edinburgh Fringe show in 2018 led to transfers at SOHO Theatre and VAULT Festival. He has also performed at the Bloomsbury Theatre and to 5000 people at the Glastonbury Festival.


He has created several popular shows for BBC Radio 4, including panel game The Ultimate Choice, starring Steph McGovern, and political sitcom Lobby Land, starring Charlie Higson, Ophelia Lovibond and Cariad Lloyd. His other credits include Only Connect (BBC Two),Tailenders (BBC Two), Austentatious (Radio 4), The World of Simon Rich (Radio 4),Comic Relief (BBC One), The Revolution Will Be Televised (BBC Three) and Private Eye.


Jon has written and presented series on the ancient world including Could An Ancient Athenian Fix Britain? and Happy 2500th to the Brave 300 for BBC Radio 4. As a journalist he has been published in The Sunday Times, Big Issue, Metro, Paris Match, NME and many more.


He is a sought-after commercial writer, including writing regularly for high-profile awards shows.
